When the Institute for Social Research (ISR) started its work in Frankfurt, Germany in 1923, it was targeted immediately by the Nazis. They saw it as a threat to their own movement and they heavily opposed what the ISR was doing. The Nazis could have easily crushed the ISR but instead, they chose to co-opt it.
